Benefits
The pelvic floor muscles are considered by many the “Missing Link” to a full recovery for many patients with low back and hip pain. These muscles are truly the foundation of our psychological and physical well being. Every practitioner “should be” addressing this vital group of muscles with their patients. However, the pelvic floor is often ignored due to the sensitivity of the topic and fear of asking embarrassing questions. However, patients want you to ask to open up the topic for discussion so they can find helpful options besides invasive surgery and medications with side effects. Patients also want a full recovery from their low back and hip pain. Many clinicians lack confidence and knowledge about what to do if there is a pelvic floor problem and are frustrated incorporating it into existing treatment skills. We can no longer afford to not recognize the well researched relationship between the core and the pelvic floor to low back and hip pain. The “Missing Link!”
