  • How to teach a minimum of 8 YIN postures that focus on the lumbopelvic and hip regions
  • How to incorporate the use of props so that clients can adapt these postures to better suit their body requirements
  • The philosophy of Yin and how to incorporate that philosophy into day to day living
  • Breath techniques that will stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system
  • How connective tissue can be stretched and compressed safely to gain more flexibility

Benefits

Yin is a branch of yoga that teaches stillness while targeting the connective tissue of the lumbopelvic, hip and pelvic floor regions. Yin is a lovely practice that addresses the bio component of connective tissue tension while addressing the psychosocial components of persistent pain through improving mind-body connection. Yin postures are typically held for 2-5 minutes, focusing on the breath, creating stillness of the mind in order to evoke the relaxation response. Yin Yoga targets the parasympathetic nervous system in order to complete the stress response. This practice blends nicely into the rehabilitation setting since physical postures can be individualized and targeted to the patient's presentation. It is a physical practice as well as a nervous system practice, which makes it an ideal practice for patients with persistent pain. Class participants will learn the eight most effective YIN postures for lumbopelvic and hip pain. These postures will be broken down into four components:

  • The opportunity to experience each posture
  • Discussion of the benefits and precautions of each posture for your patient
  • The targeted connective tissue of each posture
  • How to teach each posture incorporating variations, props and the dialogue so that postures can be individualized for your patient
