How: All you need to take this live, online course is a Zoom account. We encourage you to sign up for your free Zoom account before the first session. You will receive your Zoom meeting link two weeks before the course begins.
Syllabus
Upon completion of this course, participants will learn how to:
- Explore the biopsychosocial profile of shame and utilize therapeutic skills to disrupt the cycle with your patients.
- Identify ways that shame presents in your clinical practice and discover strategies for working more effectively with patients without triggering their neurophysiological shut-down response.
- Increase your own self-awareness around shame and your protective patterns through reflective exercises.
- Understand how compassion-oriented therapies work, what makes them effective and how to integrate them into your practice.
Benefits
Shame, a deeply held fear of rejection, can be a debilitating experience for clients and a significant stuck point in treatment for practitioners. In this experiential and reflective course, we will identify the subtle (and not so subtle) ways that shame presents and how to effectively work with the strong voice of the inner critic. Using compassion, we will learn how to disrupt the patterns that people often find themselves in to avoid this emotional distress.
